You will receive hands on practice with CPR mannikins adults children and babies as well as actually using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), simulate bandaging eye injuries, broken bones and wound care. There will be some roleplay with scene and injury assessments.
It will provide you with an understanding on how to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including within an education and care setting.
CPR provided in this course is the same CPR training that all medical professionals receive.
The course is for educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.
This course may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).
Specific licensing requirements, including requirements for refresher training, should be obtained from the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and/or relevant state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authority.

Course Content
- Assessment and management of emergency situations and casualties
- Apply life support skills in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines
- First aid management for an emergency situation
- Infection control principles and procedures
- Signs and symptoms of an asthma attack -mild, moderate, severe
- Common allergic and non-allergic asthma triggers
- Use of an asthma bronchodilator medication using a spacer
- Development of risk minimisation and management strategies for asthma and anaphylaxis
- Definition of an allergic reaction and recognition
- Action plans
- Using auto injectors Epi Pen
Course Delivery
FACT courses are completed face to face at our training location 34 South Terrace Adelaide 5000. We provide the theory-based reading booklet (Learners Guide) as well as the pre course study requirements which can be found in the confirmation email which is sent on the completion of booking.
To ensure the integrity of our process we will require proof of the photo ID that you used to confirm your enrolment on the final day (your booking date) and the completion of all pre-study and knowledge requirements.
Certificate
A PDF certificate with email security will be emailed to your personal email address (supplied by you) upon successful completion of all training, assessment and administrative requirements. Some conditions will apply including the completion of the USI.
The Student USI and pre-course study must be completed prior to the start of the day that you have booked to complete the practical training and assessment or we can not guarantee you will be able to complete the practical training on the day.
Course Duration
The course overall course duration is up to 24 hours with up to 15.5 hours of pre-study. The practical training and assessment will take place over a timeframe of up to 8.5 hours. The registration and check in time is from 08:00am and the practical training and assessment commences at 08:30am sharp
